EZEStep Installation
Overview
Ford, GM or Dodge trucks are similar in some ways but have some differences as well. EZEStep is designed to accommodate these differences, while able to attach solidly to your truck underbody in a simple straightforward way. There are no holes to drill or modifications that you need to make to your truck. It bolts onto brackets and features that are already there. This is simple for installing on your truck, but also makes it possible to enjoy the benefits of EZEStep when you have a leased or long term rental truck. You can remove it when the time comes to return it and no one knows it was there. Similarly, if you sell your truck you can choose to leave it on or remove it to install it on your next truck.
We provide the product preassembled. All fasteners (including the mounting bars) are stainless steel to ensure during the product’s long life, that corrosion seizing won’t occur. Our mounting bolts are larger than necessary, so their strength is never an issue.
The step bar is normally 2 L-shaped half tubes. Each half tube will have a rear bracket and side bracket loosely mounted on it and with the carriage bolts and lock nuts.
This is meant to give a general idea of what installation steps are. More detailed instructions will be included with the product, since they vary depending on the brand and model.
Chevrolet/GMC, Ford, RAM Installations
We preassemble the product to a sensible extent to make it easier, more straightforward and quicker to install.
During installation, position all brackets and fasteners as instructed below, but don’t tighten until everything is placed where it should be.
Install the center bracket over the trailer hitch receiver. There are usually 3 bolts (Some models only use 2 bolts) that hold it in place. leave the bolts snug to leave a little flex for the rest of the installation.
Insert the end of the long leg of the driver or passenger side assemblies into the center bracket plate on the side you’re installing.
Support the tube roughly horizontally and swing the side bracket up to mount on the rear leaf spring bracket. 2 – ½” hex bolts and lock nuts with mounting bars to span between the EZEStep bracket and vehicle bracket.
Then similarly rotate the rear brackets to mount to the attachment points ahead of the rear bumper.
Make these bolts snug, but don't tighten yet. Leave the band clamp bolts loose.
Do the same for the other side, fitting the other long end over the center connecting tube, being careful to not push the first tube out of the center bracket plate.
You can grasp each tube to make some small position adjustments as needed. When the position looks right, tighten the upper bracket bolts first and the center bracket bolts next.
Now tighten the band clamp bolts. Be careful to not overtighten, since this will bend the band clamp material without providing more clamping force.
Stainless steel fasteners ensure that any later work is easy and locknuts prevent loosening over time. We care about the product we made for you and how well it works.
Enjoy your EZEstep for many years to come.
